My Hopes and Dreams are dashed....

As we all know, after Caitie’s unfortunate mishap with her bookcase, her favorite mantra has become “My hopes and dreams are dashed of becoming a leg model”. Well, after last night, my mantra is going to be, “My hopes and dreams are dashed of becoming a hand model.”
Last night during one of our many snow storms I was out trying to get some things done. I delivered Marian and Bob’s gift and headed over to the Gateway to pick up my final wreath from Starbucks. (They are really cute this year) After picking it up I headed toward the parking lot. Not 10 feet from the door I slipped and fell. I tried to get up quickly—so that no one would see me—but immediately knew that my hand was hurt. A man who was shoveling near by helped me up and I went back into Starbucks. My hand was cut and I grabbed a handful of napkins and started direct pressure. I am so glad that I have watched a number of medical shows—one can pick up such useful tips.
They called security and two guards came and bandaged me up. One of the guards said that I might need some stitches. I was so shocked to hear his comment. I said, “Really? I have never had stitches before.” I thought he must be mistaken so I went to my car and headed right to the store to pick up bandages.
When I arrived home, I asked my roommate Lisa what she thought. Lisa is not an emotional girl but a very logical girl. She said “Are you crazy? Of course you need stitches.” and off we went to the emergency room.
Long story short—I now have 10 stitches in my left hand. I did have to recant my initial statement that I had never had stitches before. I forgot about the car accident the Jen Andersen and I were in Jan 1982. I hit the windshield and had to get 250 stitches. 10 stitches seem so wimpy.
I did make sure that my ER techs and PA’s were well qualified—I also told them that I have watched a lot of medical shows and that they had excellent technique. (The people on the next stretcher started laughing). I also told them that they had better do a good job because I have also watched a lot of "Law and Order" and I would take them to court. Know that all is well and that I am fine. As Derek’s mantra was when he had Hodgkin’s, “Send cash, not cards”
