The Owens Project - continued
Ok, so when Bets and I were home over Conference weekend, some things were finalized, thanks to all of your hard efforts and many a broken nail. (Mine are just getting back to the "perfect" length...thank you very much. By the way, I still like the idea of having delicate hands.) However, it was nice to be able to get a room "done" and then close the door and walk away. Strange as it was, a sense of finality permeated the space.
I once commented on one of our many email discussions that perhaps Mom would have been very happy with the changes and updates to her home. Well, I think my mind has changed. For the 40 some odd years that we had spent there, mother was able to create a cosy place that we called home. The homeyness has been replace with utilitarian fixtures that are definitely not mom's style; the hardwoods however beautiful, make the area echo. Mom and dad have moved on.
So, here is some last video shot of the home, compiling all that each of you have done. Kudos go out to each of you, but one constant has been the same, Bubbie...you know how it is...location, location, location!
One of the videos didn't load and was a cause of great consternation...I'll try it later.

Happy Anniversary
The 3rd of July is an important an anniversay to me as my wedding anniversary. Allen broke his neck on 3 July six years ago. Although he fractured all of his cervical vertebrae, he dodged the bullet and walked away from his accident. We count our blessings every year on this day! (I reminded ab of his near miss today as he climbed the very long extension ladder to hang a flag across the street—no repeats!)

This is where it happened. He flew off the road, over the near side of the culvert. His front tire hit the opposite side of the culvert and he flew over the handle bars and straight into the dirt. Lucky for him he missed the pole by a few inches.

Brenda is Great! Feeds Me Chocolate Cake!
Brenda very cleverly manoeuvred her way in to the pole position for the "Favorite Aunt" race. Rats! Her method—chocolate cake.
Apparently, CanMan loves Chocolate Cake—the icing in particular! But then, who doesn't? Brenda fed him a wee bit then stood near the cake holding him when all of the sudden, every muscle in his little body stretched until he could pull himself around Brenda to get to the cake.
Once you've enjoyed the rich deliciousness of chocolate cake, how do you go back to mere pureed squash? Blegck!

Postscript...
I forgot to mention that Baby Boy also LOVES graham cracker crust! He'd probably love the pineapple cheesecake that went with it but, unfortunately for him, he does not get to eat any dairy for now. Poor baby!
(are those "Tweety Bird" eyes or what?!)

Pearce Pass Down Ceremony
Yesterday I sat in the Pearce gymnasium for the final pep rally of the 2009-2010 school year. During the final pep rally, the officers from each of PHS' organizations Pass Down their role to the new officers or designated representatives (if officers have not been named) for the next year.
Blake and two other juniors walked to the center of the court where they met three senior men wearing UGLY plaid blazers. The juniors turned around, knelt and stuck their arms straight out behind them. The seniors removed their jackets and put them on the juniors thus naming them the new Captains of the Blazer Crew. The juniors stood and raised a fist in triumph as the crowd roared with laughter.
Blazer crew members attend Pearce sporting events where they help to generate crowd enthusiasm by yelling chants and generally acting obnoxious. Blake seems to be excited about his new role and is wearing his new blazer around the house. It is an ugly woman's jacket from Talbot's with cranberry, yellow, navy, green and tan plaid. He will now have another activity to add to his college resume. I'm so proud.
Blake also participated in the Pass Down for the football team where he thinks he may be named a captain. He is also hoping to be a captain on Stampede.

Happy Birthday Beverly
I told Bub that I would post a little birthday present for her on the blog.
Happy Birthday, Birthday Girl!!
Here you go, Bev!

(If one of the videos won't play, drag the timeline arrow a bit to the right and that should get things going.)
These scintillating, high-def videos were taken with my cell phone during the Superbowl. Baby Boy LOVES football! You can tell because he can't take his eyes off of the action. My camera and I were dead to him.
I realize that Bubba might not appreciate the videos as much as the rest of us because she sees this kid every day—she's SO LUCKY!!
Here's a pic you haven't seen Bub:
Gotta love those cheeks!
