senior prom 2009

kathryn and alec

these are the six that are going to byu together
(taylor, corry, austin, alec, kathryn and justin)

these are a few random pics from alec's senior prom. it was held last saturday and started at 4:00 pm and i think he took her home around 5:30 the next morning!! the whole group took a limo together and did a progressive dinner. they ended up downtown where, after an ice cream dessert, they took carriage rides to the actual dance (which was held at invesco field). following the dance they all came home, changed, and headed over to the school for afterprom. that went until 4:00 am and then they came to our house for a waffle breakfast. i know they all left around 5:30, but i already went back to bed around 5:00 am! i think that they all had a really fun time together. they are a great group of kids.
can't believe that we have hit the senior prom milestone. he will be gone before we know it.

all i want for christmas is my two front teeth

the tooth fairy came to my house last night and because i had to have my teeth pulled, alec said that the tooth fairy brings extra money. and she did!!!! can you believe that i got $7.00 for my two front teeth! my mom can't believe i got so much!

cricket went to the dentist yesterday just for a cleaning (and yes -- still no cavities!!! i mentioned that her front two teeth seemed to be getting darker. (i don't know if you remember that when she was 18 months old she fell in her stroller and caught herself with her teeth.) anyways -- they took x-rays and saw that her permanant teeth were having to grow behind the baby ones and that she had an infection (i think because the baby teeth were getting old and were not even close to becoming loose -- the roots had not even gotten smaller) and so it would be best to remove the teeth. the dentist said that we could set up an appointment or do it then. i said, "do it." so one numbing needle and two teeth extractions later she came home looking like this! after they got them out -- the dentist said that there was no way those teeth were ever going to come out by themselves!) she did wonderfully and there has been no problems with pain since. now it is up to her tongue and lips to push those permanant teeth into place. can you say braces?

on the way home i told her that since she did such a great job that she would get to decide what was for dinner. she decided that she wanted tea garden (a yummy chinese restaurant) and she did not want take-out, she wanted it live. she explained that she wanted to eat in the restaurant. so that's what we did. it cost as much as the dental proceedure cost -- but it was worth it!

i just can't stand it!! i thought she was cute before, but she is super cute now!!!!

easter sunday best

these are the girls in their easter dresses. caitie thought that they should not match this year (usually they like to), and while their sweaters are different colors, their skirts did have a lot of the same colors. they looked super cute and very spring-y on our overcast rainy easter day.

Home Improvement

So I’ve been working on making a new duvet cover for our bedroom. Last Summer we painted our room and the new color just doesn’t work with the old cover, which we actually really like. (Do any of you want a really nice queen-sized duvet cover—black chenille with an understated gold/green palm tree pattern? I can send a picture!) Because, for one, the construction of the new cover is a little tricky—more than just sewing four seams and calling it a day—but mostly because I’m generally SLOW, I was up late with my sewing machine last night. In the wee hours of the morning HGTV has “Paid Programming” and I had it running in the background thinking they couldn’t possibly have anything on an infomercial that would interest me. Sadly I was wrong. Actually, not sadly…I’m super excited!! As soon as I get my new floors (more on that below) I’m totally getting the Shark Steam Mop!! And though I can’t actually justify buying it (mainly because I don’t think I’ve ever really finished a craft project—did I mention that I’m SLOW?), I REALLY, REALLY want the Cricut Expressions Cutting Machine. I’m thinking that maybe I’ll just try their $33 try-it-for-a-month offer and do everything I want to do during that time. (Yeah…that’s going to happen! Did I mention that I’m SLOW?)

Now for my floors…a couple of weeks ago we noticed that our floor boards in the dining/piano room adjacent to the back of the refrigerator were discolored. AB pulled out the refrigerator and found the culprit—a slow drip at the valve. Long story short, I have a crew in here today tenting and sawing and ripping my floors and walls in the kitchen and dining room to find and eliminate mold. I guess they’ve already found the mold and now they are trying to find how far it goes. After they “certify” that we are mold free, they will then rip up the rest of the floors and replace them. Seeing as it took me five months to finish my small bathroom redo, I wonder how long it will take to decide what to replace the floor with.

At least this gives me a legitimate excuse for not cooking. I think I may just leave the refrigerator where it is now—handy for grabbing what you need when you're at the table. Note that my duvet-making sweat shop has been temporarily shut down. That table area looks a lot bigger in the picture than it actually is. Hmmm...
