Junior Symphony Ball—Texas Style

From Brenda—18 February 2009

Below are pictures of Blake, his date Anna Shelton and the other kids in the group that attended the Junior Symphony Ball (JSB). These pictures were taken at a hotel nearby. They then took a limo to a restaurant for a steak dinner (at least I think they went to a steakhouse) and then on to a banquet hall downtown where high school kids from around the city came for CW dancing and casino games. The kids then went to one of the girls parents farm where the girls slept indoors and the boys slept in tents (guess who forgot to bring a sleeping bag to sleep outside in early January). The next morning, the kids all rode on ATVs and arrived home at around 2:00 p.m. The girls were all in charge of planning this event, but the boys were in charge of the activities on the night before. Everyone gathered and had a progressive dinner at three of the boy’s homes ending with movies and dessert at the last home. What a fun weekend for them all.

This is a shot of Blake and Anna with their friends Jett (the football coach's cute son) and Katie. Katie is an uber-athlete but is especially good at volleyball. Lexi and I have gone to watch the Pearce volleyball team play and I always tell Lexi to watch Katie and play just like her. Katie is 5’11” or 6’.

Oh yea, I forgot to tell you. Blake is running track and power lifting in the off-football season. Every week, the coach selects 2 of the guys that he believes showed leadership during the prior week or whatever and they earn a red shirt (one of Pearce’s colors). Blake earned a red shirt this week. Yea!!

Lexi won 2nd place in the Science Fair. Her experiment was on the how quickly paper degrades in landfill conditions. I was really surprised that she did so well because after 5-6 weeks of daily heat and water, the papers she selected (newspaper, paper towel, light cardboard) did not degrade much at all, but she got a red. And she was selected to compete to be a member of a Bowie team for a knowledge bowl competition. She has to pass a test on the 60’s and 70’s after school today, then write an essay and do some other stuff. None of us really know that much about what this is all about, but she studied the material and feels ready to go for it. And the best thing of all, she made the jump rope team. Life just does not get any better.
